How It Started
It all started with a juice shop. Our CEO Claire Schlemme first came face-to-face with food waste when she founded Boston's first organic juice company. At the end of each day, she was left with a mountain of nutritious produce pulp and no good solution for what to use it for. When she learned that other food makers were having similar “pulp” byproduct problems but at a much larger scale, that’s when the lightbulb went off. Renewal Mill exists to ensure that 100% of the food we produce is put to its best & highest use — feeding people.
How does Renewal Mill upcycle?
Renewal Mill's proprietary production process works with all kinds of byproducts but we're first targeting the byproducts of plant-based milk production. These byproducts are usually pulps, like soybean pulp, oat pulp, and almond pulp. We dry and mill these pulps without using synthetic processing techniques or unnatural fortification to produce nutritious ingredients that are rich in macronutrients including fiber and protein.
